Black, grey or red? Cleat choice shouldn’t be solely about picking your favourite colour but knowing which colour is which will make it easier to pick the cleat that’s best for you. Grey cleats are the ones included with all Look clipless road pedals. They have 4.5 degrees of float. Red cleats have 9 degrees of float and black cleats have 0 degrees of float. Float is the amount of side to side movement your foot has whilst clipped in. Which one should you pick? Most people will be happy with grey cleats. If you want more movement for your feet, red might suit you better. If you want no movement at all black’s the one but we recommend that you know your cleats are going to be in the right place as you don’t want to put any undue stress on your knees – they already work hard enough!
